Prakriti Foundation’s Helping Hands during Kerala, Madikeri and Belagavi Floods

If there is one thing that is certain during a flood, it’s that the people affected will need help. Prakriti Foundation is one organization that stands beside the people who are affected and helps them in whatever way possible. For example, in the floods in Belagavi in 2018, Prakriti Foundation provided food, water, and other relief materials to the people who were affected. They also set up medical camps and temporary shelters.

Flood Response Situation Handling By Prakriti Foundation

During the Belagavi flood situation, Prakriti Foundation saw a difficult phase of working nature, where there was no idea to reach out with the communication through which prakriti foundation can help people out there facing issues. Prakriti foundation created a campaign to help people held in the situation. We were having a contact with some officials and personally spoked with the victims and induced the awareness about the situation. As awareness of the situation is important to help out in the best way. Information about the affected area was the 1st step where we could prioritize the necessities. Prakriti Foundation stood to help people who need basic help, such as with food or medication.

The water level was growing so quickly no one was able to take any decision of self-rescue all they could do was to seize anything that they could or they could think of. Individuals were calling for help, keeping that apart even dogs other animals screamed for an assistant. Listen to this Prakriti Foundation members and volunteers got shuttered fully. Soon after the floods, people started evacuating their homes. They were accumulated to the nearest school or places where they could be saved. Individuals helped each other saving what they could make it out while helping others. People thought of being safe but in no time the water touched the height of where people were safeguarding. They were not left off with any food neither have anything which would help in the situational demands.

Prakriti Foundation took a step when they got information about food. We arranged around 10,000 packets of food to serve them. Prakriti Foundation knew that surviving on the limited food will not help out them any longer. We came aware of people drove into the floodwater as there weren’t feed since the flood started, they were not strong enough to sustain the force of water. They were surrounded by water but they can’t use it for drinking purposes. People were devasting day by day as there was no drinking water. They were experiencing all in real situations with no food, water, without any trust in living, where no individual would even think of a nightmare. Prakriti Foundation couldn’t even sleep at that time. Imagination drives unsound. Their vehicles being devoured by the increasing flood force. All these things people were just watching and couldn’t do anything more.

They were trying to make out contact anyone or to reach out to any were. All efforts went ruined as electricity flow was so powerful, no one would take the life risk to save them. Even the government took the time to reach out as the situation was that worst.

People were trying for food and transportation if feasible because the water level was increasing. The rescue team was not successful in reaching out all over places. Prakriti Foundation arranged food and made sure it reaches them. Prakriti Foundation was in continuous contact and taking feedback on any other requirements. The victim’s feedback and their feeling when they saw food can’t explain in words.

Prakriti Foundation experienced the situational issues arose and helped all necessities. Prakriti Foundation has committed to aid relief work in regions affected by the floods. Relief task has conducted by Prakriti Foundation in a phased practice with our networks and volunteers. Prakriti Foundation has initiated distribution of food, medical facilities, lighters (which many may think of no use but at nights it was useful and got people appreciation), and water to help the people in the situation. Prakriti Foundation had a vision on the virtual situation and began to solve their problems with the help of government.

Prakriti Foundation began our work as soon as it came to know that they were a disaster but making up arrangement needed time and to gather volunteers, funds and all necessary material it took time but we reached and out materials helped many of them. We found help from nodal officer for efficient resource allocation, effective collaboration with a strong systems and end-to-end transparency.

Our combined effort has provided over 750 people with food arrangements, Medical support for more than 1500, provided blankets for 500 people and water supplies for about 3000 people.

As resources is limited, we wanted each and every individual who are in needy position must get it. Then we remembered the union student members who helped us to join in the camp. With the boys help we went to few camps served with all the facilities we could provide.

We had even opened up our journey for Kerala people in other cities because of the floods. Indians from diverse parts of the country used social media to help people stranded in the Kerala flood-hit southern state. Managing hygiene and preventing disease in relief camps, sheltering more than 800,000 people was a vital challenge.
